In this project, I created two versions of my portfolio website using GitHub Pages and WordPress. This was my first time building a website, so I learned a lot from both methods. The biggest difference between them is that GitHub requires writing code, while WordPress allows you to build a website using a visual editor.
One of the biggest challenges for me as a beginner was using GitHub. I had to learn how to use HTML, CSS, and Git commands. At first, it was confusing to understand how everything works together, especially when something did not work and I had to fix errors. However, this helped me learn more about how websites are actually built.
WordPress was easier to use because I could create pages by clicking buttons and adding blocks. I did not need to write code, which made it faster to build pages. However, sometimes it was harder to customize the design exactly the way I wanted because I was limited by the settings and themes.
Another difference is how layout and organization are changed. In GitHub, I had to edit the code directly to change the layout, which takes more time but gives full control. In WordPress, I could move things around easily, but I did not always have full control over the design.
To complete this project, I learned several important skills. I learned basic HTML and CSS for building pages, how to use Git and GitHub to manage my files, and how to create and organize pages in WordPress. These skills are important for web development and will help me in future projects.
In the future, I want to improve my CSS skills to make my website look more professional. I also want to learn more advanced web development so I can create more interactive and creative websites.
Overall, this project helped me understand the difference between coding a website and using a website builder. Both methods are useful, and I now have experience with both.
